UNDR CTRL GUIDE
A car maintenance app, plus a free service log
A car runs on a handful of dates: the next oil change, the tire rotation, the registration renewal, the insurance term. Miss one and it costs more later. A service log keeps all of it in one place, along with what each visit cost. Start with the free log below, then keep it going in UNDR CTRL.
Free car service log
One row per service or repair: the date, the mileage, what was done, who did it, the cost, and when it is next due by date or by miles. The top line holds your registration and insurance renewal dates. Print one for each car.
What to keep track of
- Regular service. Oil changes, tire rotations, brakes, filters and fluids. Your owner’s manual lists the schedule for your car, by miles and by months.
- Registration and inspection. The renewal date, and any emissions or safety inspection your state asks for.
- Insurance. When the term renews, so you have time to compare before it does.
- Recalls. Look up your vehicle identification number (VIN) on the federal recall lookup at nhtsa.gov/recalls a few times a year. Safety recall repairs are done free at a dealer.
- Repairs and what they cost. A full history helps when you sell, and shows when a car has started costing more than it is worth.
Making it stick
Keep the log where you will see it, write the mileage every time, and fill in Next due before you leave the shop. The next visit is then one glance away.
Doing it in UNDR CTRL
The Car area of UNDR CTRL keeps each vehicle’s dates and history in the same app as your bills, home and appointments:
- Registration, insurance and service dates for every car, in your calendar on iPhone, Google Calendar or Outlook.
- Service history with costs, so every visit and what it cost is on record.
- Vehicle details from the VIN, and a check for open recalls.
- Shared with your household, so whoever takes the car in knows what is due.
More free sheets: bills, subscriptions, home upkeep and a weekly reset.
